Sex Toy Cleanliness A Guide to Proper Sanitization
A simple rinse is not enough. For non-porous, body-safe materials like silicone, glass, and stainless steel, washing with warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a dedicated toy cleaner immediately after use is the standard. These materials can also be sterilized more thoroughly: boilable toys can be submerged in rolling water for a few minutes, while others can be wiped with a 10% bleach solution (rinsed thoroughly) or placed in the top rack of a dishwasher. For porous materials like TPE/TPR or jelly rubber, thorough washing is still essential, but they cannot be fully sterilized, making them less hygienic over time and necessitating use with a condom. Electric toys with charging ports must never be submerged; instead, clean the surface with a damp cloth and soapy water, avoiding the seam where the motor is housed. Allowing toys to air-dry completely before storage in a clean, breathable bag (not airtight plastic) prevents bacterial and mold growth. Establishing this routine protects your health and ensures your investment lasts.
