Selecting a lubricant is a science. Water-based lubricants are the most versatile, safe to use with all sex toy materials (especially silicone), and easy to clean. However, they tend to absorb into the skin and may require reapplication. Silicone-based lubes are longer-lasting, supremely slick, and water-resistant, making them ideal for shower play, but they are not compatible with silicone toys as they can degrade the material. The cardinal rule is to never use oil-based lubricants (like coconut oil, Vaseline) with latex condoms, as they cause breakdowns, or with porous toys, as they degrade the material.
